My Perspective is a diptych that shows two sides of someone. On the left, we see the way people perceive the model. On the right we see a mirrored image staring at the camera to resemble the model looking into a mirror. The mirrored image shows the person with visual elements including tears, marker scribbles, cuts, and crumples.
These effects on the image are paired with the phrase “dead batteries’’ to sell the idea that the model depicted is drained from life. The left image has none of these elements because the viewer may see and understand on a surface level that the model isn’t all right, but they don’t know what the person truly feels like. We all live very complex lives and no matter how well you may know someone, you can never truly feel their pain.
Using a process of combining photo studio photos with a mixed media process of printing, cutting, marking, and scanning, this diptych was created
This left image was photographed on a Canon EOS 2000, with the settings of an ISO of 800, an aperture of f/7.1, a focal length of 33mm, and a shutter speed of 1/125.
This right image was photographed on a Canon EOS 2000, with the settings of with settings of an ISO of 800, an aperture of f/7.1, a focal length of 25mm, and a shutter speed of 1/125.
The images were then edited in Photoshop and the right was scanned into Photoshop and edited. Once the photograph was completed, it was printed on photo paper at the size of 24” x 35”.
